how to style a white shirt for work

Styling a white shirt: The workwear edit

Will white shirts ever go out of trend? We think not … and if the preppy dressing vibe – nostalgia for school uniform days – which is dominating the northern hemisphere’s fall fashion catalogues is anything to go by, we’re confident it’s a piece well worth adding to your collection.

Here are some ways you could style yours for work:

Look 1

Get that polished, ready-for-the-boardroom look by complementing your white shirt with pleated trousers. Add heels (pointed-toe ones always make your legs look longer so it’s especially a good idea to pair them with these cropped pleated trousers). Pop a laptop tote or a backpack over your shoulder and you’re ready to turn heads.

Look 2

Swap the pleated trousers for a pencil skirt … this look is very put-together and feminine. You may like to add a trench or mac to give a bit more of a slouchy silhouette (so trendy). It’ll also help to fight off the August chill.

Look 3

Pairing your white shirt with skinny black jeans will give your look a modern vibe. If you want a little more of a relaxed edge, pop on a trench and push up the sleeves.

Look 4

You could switch out the trench for a denim jacket. The one pictured is quite fitted, but you could upsize for a more boxy style too. Swapping heels for loafers would give you a casual Friday look.

You could pair these looks with any of the white shirts in your collection. What we love about the Ivory Wrap Shirt pictured – and available for you to shop in our collection – is that it’s so easy to style since it’s a wrap. The side tie-up gives interest, and the pearl detailing on the cuffs adds that extra touch of class.
