Jute Totes: The sensible and stylish shopping solution

The Piebald Boutique’s all about black and white fashion and decor … but we’re big fans of green pieces too. And no, we don’t mean the colour…

We’re talking slow fashion, considered pieces and eco-friendly means of production, which is why we curate our store carefully with fashion and decor that’ll last beyond current trends and seasons. And it’s precisely this thinking that led us to stock our cute custom Jute Tote Bags.

In a world overwhelmed by plastic pollution, jute provides a sensible and stylish shopping solution. Along with being a green fashion trend, jute bags are durable – ours can hold 10kg – and they’re biodegradable and compostable too.

About jute…
The jute plant is a vegetable fibre – known as the golden fibre – grown in rainy regions, mainly in South and East Asia. It’s history dates back to the Han Dynasty in China – where it was used as paper – and it was also worn as clothing by villagers in India from about the 16th century.

Its popularity…
It’s widely believed the British East India Company was the first business to trade jute when it exported 100 tons of the fibres to Dundee, Scotland in 1793, and, according to
jutebag.co.uk, by 1800, the Dundee spinners had mastered spinning jute yarn.

From ropes to fishing baskets and carpets, jute has been used to make all sorts of useful and sturdy items, and it’s currently extremely fashionable to wear one on your arm as a bag.

And now…
From boring old grocery shopping trips to lunch with friends and even holidays in the bush or on the beach,
The Piebald Jute Tote will tick all the boxes when it comes to what you need in a bag: It’s sensible, sturdy and super-stylish.
